HTC is proud to announce the launch and soft opening of its first economic engine, the HTC Auto Repair Center. Economic engines are being developed for two main purposes: to provide HTC graduates who have completed appropriate professional training with interships and jobs as well as additional professional training in a safe business environment that operates according to christian business principles. Not only will these young men and women acquire invaluable work experience but they will also be supported, coached and mentored by mature christian men and women, thus providing a safe haven as they reintegrate their communities.
Secondly, economic engines will be run as social businesses, therefore all surpluses will be reinvested in the businesses and flowed into the HTC ministry to help it gradually achieve financial self-sufficiency.
Economic engines will be market demand driven and developed after a strong market feasibility study has been completed. These businesses will adhere to the HTC values and will ensure the highest quality of customer service, transparency, efficiency and sound stewardship of the funds invested to develop these businesses.
The HTC Auto Repair Center, is the first of such economic engines. It is creating 3 full-time positions and offering two mechanic interns an 12-month opportunity to acquire the required skills to obtain a sustainable position in their field of study. The team is entirely comprised on Haitian nationals, and 3 HTC graduates have been retained for the mechanic positions. In addition to the 3 mechanics' positions being filled with HTC graduates, a full time position for a security guard will also be filled by a HTC graduate. As the garage grows and there is a need for additional mechanics and interns, HTC graduates will be selected wherever possible.
