Ayiti Clean Challenge
Clean Challenge is currently working in Haiti (Ayiti). The vision is a functioning waste system that can provide a source of income and create an opportunity for the country to improve their soil health and human health. We are partnering with the Haiti Clean Challenge team who is leading and initiating change in their communities. We believe that when Haiti nationals lead, it is more sustainable, efficient, and a long-term solution.
We share our experience through technical advising, assist in planning. The Ayiti Clean Challenge team partners with Haiti Teen Challenge and is already established and working in Haiti, improving their communities through increasing community engagement and restoration.
With proper waste management and utilization, the waste system has potential to improve both urban and rural health. A large portion of waste in many waste systems has high amounts of organic matter (such as plant materials, cardboard, paper products, and food scraps). This organic matter, when composted, is a promising solution to another grand challenge, increasing and sustaining soil health and food production. Our solution is an environmentally safe facility for waste to be transformed from a problem into a solution. By composting, recycling, upcycling, and a lined landfill, our project will improve urban and rural community health. The compost generated at the facility, paired with agronomic training programs, will improve food production and food security. The use of compost can greatly improve farmers’ productivity and climate resilience. This will in turn benefit communities by improving community health due to proper waste disposal and increased availability of local food.
