My name is Judelin, and I graduated four years ago from Haiti Teen Challenge. It is a great pleasure for me to share what God is doing in my life.
My father left my mother when I was just a little boy. In order to care for me and earn money to pay for my school my mother always had to leave me with other people. Sometimes months would go by without seeing her. And then in 2003, my Mother passed away. I was completely devastated.
I was only 13 and I had to leave my hometown to go to stay with my Aunt in Port-au-Prince. I was an orphan. I had no direction in my life. I didn't know who I was, did not think I had any value in society or purpose. I had no one who spoke into my life to encourage me and so I led my life by my own perspective.
I made friends with people who were not good examples for me. They introduced me to alcohol, sex and a life without boundaries. I was looking for satisfaction in these things but I was completely lost. Life was so difficult and everything I tried left me empty.
I met an old friend who told me about Haiti Teen Challenge. I did not want to go because in my mind all I needed to do was to leave Haiti and go to the United States, and then I would have a better life. But I will always remember this, my friend said, " Judelin if you go to The United States without Jesus Christ in your life you will be completely lost, more than you can ever imagine." For five months I struggled with what to do, but in July of 2013, I came into Haiti Teen Challenge to help me find direction in my life.
It's true that things were not easy at all. It was a new life with different people that I had never met before. But I felt a new chapter beginning in my life. It didn't take me long to really feel at home and realize that this place is where God wanted me to be. The teaching, and the love I received from the staff were so encouraging and inspired me to become a better person.
Today I'm a strong believer in Jesus Christ and I continue to grow in my relationship with him. I am no longer lost, he is my solid rock and upon him I stand. Now I am excited for my future. I am working with kids who live on the street, teaching them about God and showing them that there is a better way to live. I'm also serving as the co-worship leader at Rendez Vous Christ Church and very soon will be the Pastor for the teens. God has brought a beautiful young woman into my life and I cannot wait to see what God has in store for us.
Thank you for your support so that other young men like me can find their purpose and value in Jesus Christ and thank you for letting me share just a little part of my story. I hope you enjoy the short video my brothers and I made for you.
